Cowlitz County Public Shooting Range – Status
by Cowlitz Game & Anglers ~ May 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Range Development. To date, Cowlitz Game & Anglers has received a Grant from the Wash State Recreation & Conservation Office for $100,000 and we have received pledges of a little over $100,000 in matching funds from Cowlitz County businesses and Citizens that believe our area needs a place where the general public can practice safe shooting at a reasonable cost.
Projected fees will be Walk-up shooters on Wednesday afternoon and all day Saturday: $6.00.
Those that want access any day will pay $60.00 for a yearly pass.
Trap will be $5.00 per round. (All quoted fees subject to final approval by CG&A Board of Directors)
We still need another $30,000 to insure we build to our best requirements and functions. Anything you and/or your friends or employer can do to help this beneficial project will be greatly appreciated.
The County Commissioners have signed off on a 12 year lease for the LT-1 Dredge Spoils at the end of Toutle Park Road, 8/10 mile East of I-5 exit 52.
Acoustical engineers have confirmed noise will be well below the County noise ordnance. Geologists have confirmed the land is suitable for a shooting Range as has a Civil Engineering firm. WDF&W has confirmed there will be no impact on wildlife and EPA data confirms we will not have any problems with lead migrating in any direction or depth. Traffic studies show the roads entering the range will be fully capable of handling traffic generated by sportsmen.
Currently we are preparing all this data in a cohesive package to present to the County Bldg & Planning Dept with our Special Land Use Permit application. Approval of the Application is expected to be 31 August.
As of today we are trying to manipulate our Range layout, within the 80 acres available, to lengthen the 500 yd Range to 500 meters to accommodate national shooting match requirements. The 100 yd Archery Range will have a 300 yd safety zone as will the Trap Ranges. All rifle & Pistol Ranges will have baffles such that no bullets will be able to leave the Range.
We expect to be shooting about May 2009!!!

That is such wonderful news!
This area has needed a good public range for a long time
and I welcome it with open arms. I will love not having to drive to
Vancouver or Portland to shoot at a well maintained range.
Thank you so much for all the effort being put forth in this undertaking!

Wow! This is exciting, I wish I could help! I would love to finally not have to go to Vancouver to shoot my rifles at a decent range. The prices are great too! Even if I lived in Vancouver, I would still prefer to shoot in Cowlitz. Great thanks to all those involved!

About time!
Its a pain to travel or even find a place to pop come caps in and around Cowlitz. Makes you feel like your doing something wrong.
Not all people own acres of private property to shoot on.
Agian this is great and awesome news.
I am willing to play good money to have a range close to me.
Thanks you so Richard A. Miller
Just can’t wait!
