Jack Hash
by Cowlitz Game & Anglers ~ May 1st, 2008. Filed under: Misc.Jack Hash, beloved member of Cowlitz Game & Anglers for many years passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008.
I have known Jack for 14 years. All the memories are so very positive. A cheerful, energetic and responsible man that good naturedly took on many jobs and worked diligently to make sure all involved were well taken care of and all the details were ironed out. He managed many Coffee Stops, County Fair Booths, Fishing-for Kids events, etc. The last thing he did last month was dig through his archives to find data on numbers of shooters at Lone Oak Rifle club. A few years ago he had spent a whole year collecting data that was immensely useful to the Lone Oak club as well as ours. That data solved a big problem in our current Permitting process.
His many years as an Engineer for the Highway Dept helped us in many ways when planning some of our projects. (His method of measuring distances over rough terrain helped me figure how far my shots were on Deer in the flat Snake River region).
He was always eager to help the other guy. When we were Deer hunting in the Tower GMU I shot a Deer but had to run to the truck to get my tag. When I got back he already had the Deer field dressed and ready to take to the butcher. That’s a real partner!
I saw Jack demostrate his good nature many times such as when he was in my 14′ tin boat and fought a 25 lb Salmon for a good 20 minutes. As he got it to the boat the heavy wind turned us such that his line tangled in the engine and he lost the fish. Many of us would have cursed, stomped and complained. Not Jack. He re-baited and went back to work and promised not to do that again.
Jack & his loving wife Muriel, were solid supporters of CG&A and also spent much time with other civic minded groups helping at fund raisers, selling snacks and setting up at unusual locations and early hours.
Jack was an accomplished shooter. gun aficionado and reloader. He knew powder, bullet weights, igniters and all the little nuances of getting those cartridges to perform. Most of the game I have shot was with reloads from Jack. He spent a lot of time shooting and enjoyed being out there in the world of firearm enthusiasts.
Yes, a great guy. Lets all pray for him and pray for Muriel, a wonderful wife, Mother & Grandmother.
