Millers Mussings September 2008

Dan Howell, Club Secretary and Newsletter publisher is in the Sitka area hauling in huge Salmon, Halibut & Crabs. (In August he bagged a nice 4 point Elk after an extensive early Summer scouting campaign.) Therefore, this Newsletter may not reach the membership as early as usual for those receiving it via snail mail.

Speaking of Sitka, Mike Medack & Grandson landed a bunch of fish but had to release a 48 lb Chinook because it was only 50 inches long. Mike tells us 53 inches is the minimum size for a keeper up there. Quite a catch & release fishery!

The current Fall Chinook season has been a hit or miss sort of thing. Last Friday Bruce Singleton, Mike Murphy & I landed a few Salmon slightly above the Lewis & Clark bridge. One was a 30 pounder (depending on who’s scales were used). 9 boats in our “hog” line landed about 18 fish. This Monday, when anchored in the same spot, same lures, weights & depths, ….. zero’ed out. The “hog” line landed 2 fish. Go figure.
