Toutle Pond Work Party Dec. 12

by Cowlitz Game & Anglers ~ December 9th, 2008. Filed under: Volunteer.

Mike Tyrrell will be leading the way in the annual pre-fish clean up of our Steelhead acclimation pond on the South Fork Toutle River. All able bodied members are invited. He will be opening the gate at the 4700 bridge at 10:00AM, Friday, December 12, 2008. Bring your Weed Eaters, scythes, rakes, picks & shovels. We need to clear out the grass, small alders, etc from the pond and the banks. The outlet steam is reportedly OK but it always seems to need some manicuring. The whole thing will likely be over in 2 hours. We expect to receive 12,500 Steelhead Parr in mid-January from the .

Skamania Hatchery. The normal allotment of 25,000 has been cut. Quien Sabe? Maybe the new WDF&W Director will restore some sanity in the program. It’s still amazing to me; the fisheries biologists have finally decided the problem with anadromous fish returns is hatchery fish. All this time a lot of us thought the problem was over fishing, birds and seals. Not to mention El Nino temperature problems.
