Delayed Smolt Release May 3rd – 2pm

by Cowlitz Game & Anglers ~ May 2nd, 2009. Filed under: Volunteer.

The delayed smolt release from our South Fork Toutle acclimation pond will happen Sunday, 3 May at 2:00PM according to Fish Czar Mike Tyrrell.

He will open the gate on the 4700 bridge at 1:40PM and close it at 2:05 PM.
(WeyCo doesn’t like the gate open too long.)

The release of the 15,000 fish will last about 45 minutes to 1 hr. Bring a shovel – pick -axe in case we need to perform last minute work on the outlet stream. Hip boots or waders might come in handy…

There is an illegal fish trap on the Olequa Creek. It stretches across the entire creek. No fish can get through. I have emailed DOE, Fish & game, the sheriff’s dept. I will send this to you. If the fish cannot get up creek to spawn, then the fish & game will be able to close fishing to all.

This can be seen by the bridge that goes across the RR tracks and the creek off Westside Hwy. I was rafting the creek on Saturday and had to walk around this horrific thing. I have good pictures

Need help. If you send me an email I will forward all pictures. I can be reached at 360 295 3592 or 360 355 9782.
